Mozart Concert with Dr. Richard Cox at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church
When Mozart was working in Salzburg, he wrote a great deal of church music, including two sets of pieces called Vespers, both consisting of settings of five psalms and the Magnificat. The Vespers that will be sung at Holy Trinity Church on April 15 is the Vesperae solennes de confessore, K. 339, written in 1780. It is scored for four solo voices, chorus, and a small ensemble of instrumentalists including an organ continuo part. There's a great deal of variety in this music, but its total effect is very festive, suiting the Easter season. It will be performed on April 15 by Holy Trinity Church's 26-voice Gloria Deo Choir, vocal soloists from the choir, and nine instrumentalists.
