Sacred Space for the City Art Exhibition
The Servant Leadership School of Greensboro (SLS) has conducted classes and programs on servant leadership and spiritual practice for over twenty years on the campus of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church as well as Greensboro Urban Ministry and other locations. “Co-Creation 2012” is the first annual conference and collection of cultural events hosted by the new merger of the Institute of Servant Leadership and The Servant Leadership School of Greensboro. Offered April 12 – 15, 2012, this ground-breaking event reaches out to a national audience with prominent, internationally known speakers and engaging workshops. Co-Creation 2012 activities also include concerts by local musicians, labyrinth walks, and the ‘Sacred Space for the City’ art exhibition.
The Co-Creation 2012 theme is “Servant Leadership and the Great Emergence: The Spirit’s Call to Evolve”. It asks conference attendees and the wider community to consider how we, as people of faith, tap into our collective wisdom and respond to the challenges of our time. The art, music and labyrinth walks add creative energy to these discussions and help express the theme.
Conference partners include Holy Trinity Episcopal Church and First Presbyterian Church, located in Fisher Park in downtown Greensboro. Learn more about the Servant Leadership School, the Co-Creation 2012 conference and register online.
Art exhibition theme: “The Spirit’s Call to Evolve”
The art exhibition held in conjunction with the conference is called ‘Sacred Space for the City’. This multi-site art walk, with locations at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, First Presbyterian Church, Temple Emanuel on Greene Street and FaithAction International House, will also include two outdoor sites for sculpture. The theme for the art exhibition is “The Spirit’s Call to Evolve”, echoing the theme of the conference and other cultural activities of Co-Creation 2012. Sacred Space for the City is offered free of charge to conference attendees and the general public and will take place Thursday, April 12 – Sunday, April 15, 2012.
Artists living in Guilford County in 2012 are eligible to submit work for consideration in the open call to artists. The exhibition will also include works by artists specifically invited by the committee. These artists will be noted on the Co-Creation 2012 website www.servleader.org as their work is confirmed for the show.
Entries submitted through the call to artists will be juried by two professional artists in a blind jury format. Art will be juried based on the aesthetic considerations that guide the Co-Creation 2012 conference and the artwork’s ability to express the conference theme. Due to property and budget parameters, outdoor sculpture will be by invitation only. Smaller, three-dimensional indoor sculptures are welcome for consideration in the open call to artists.

In addition to image files, artists must submit a Word document that includes:
a) Title of artwork, date, medium and dimensions. Please number to correspond with correct image.
b) Current mailing address, phone number, email address and web address if applicable.
c) Three sentence artist statement describing how the images submitted speak to the exhibition theme “The Spirit’s Call to Evolve”. (Note: Please approach this from your personal viewpoint. Is your work about the quiet, open place where you hear the call of Spirit? Or, does your work express the change that is implied by the word ‘evolve’? Something that has evolved has a new way of being – is your work recycled or repurposed?)
